Job summary
This is an exciting opportunity to join our Arrhythmia nursing team as an Arrhythmia Nurse Specialist at the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre. The demand for electrophysiology services is increasing due to improved diagnosis and wider range of treatment options. The post holder is expected to work Monday to Friday in order to meet the needs of the demanding service.
We are looking for an experienced senior cardiac nurse with vision and enthusiasm to contribute to the continued quality and developmental success of the service.
Advanced clinical skills combined with substantial experience and achievement in nursing cardiac patients is a must for this role, as is experience of developing clinical guidelines and clinical care pathways. You must have a keen interest in Education, research , training and development.
Main duties of the job
You will deliver consultant supported Arrhythmia clinics and preassessment clinics for patients undergoing catheter ablation for arrhythmias and complex device implantation. You will provide continuity of care by following the patient's journey from clinic appointments, admission, discharge and follow up. You will offer continued support through the advice telephone helpline as well as providing education for patients and family.
Working closely with the Electrophysiologist, Device Cardiologists, Cardiology Matron and Cardiac Physiologists, support the patient pathway from primary to tertiary care, engaging with healthcare professionals across the network area. Along with the service leads you will support the development of new services to meet the evolving needs of our patient population.
About us
Mid and South Essex NHS Foundation Tryst is now one of the largest in the country, with a workforce of approximately 15,000 who serve a population of 1.2 million people.
The Essex Cardiothoracic centre provides tertiary specialist cardiothoracic treatments for the 2.1 million patients with heart and lung disease living in Essex. Opened in 2007, the Essex CTC is a recognised centre of excellence in both clinical provision and also in clinical research.
The Essex CTC is run by the newly aggregated Mid and South Essex Trust. It is located within the grounds of Basildon Hospital.
The large geographic area that the Essex CTC serves means that over the last decade it has operated a hub and spoke model with complex implantable devices including emergency extractions, catheter ablation for a variety of arrhythmias and other specialised complex arrhythmia management being undertaken at the centre.
