Job summary
Our award winning Stroke Team are looking to appoint a Clinical Fellow (Foundation Year 2 level) doctor on a 24 month fixed term basis.
This post has been designed to develop junior doctors' generic skills before entering the Foundation year 2 programme as expected by Modernising Medical Careers and will work in conjunction with the Foundation Year 1 training posts.Although these posts have neither Royal College nor Postgraduate approval for training, they will be well supported by an allocated educational mentor.
Main duties of the job
Aims of Post
- Develop enhanced clinical skills, especially in the assessment and management of acutely ill patients in A&E
- Gain experience in general practice, and the interface between primary and secondary care
- Improve all aspects of communication with patients, carers and staff members working within multi-disciplinary teams
- Develop knowledge of hospital systems and clinical governance
- improve competencies in IT skills and critical use of evidence and data
Medicine - Ward Based Working
The medical directorate run a ward-based system of working. The FY2 doctor will contribute to the care of patients on a specified medical ward. The patient mix of each ward is biased towards the specialty of the supervising consultants, but also includes general medical patients with non-specialty specific problems.
Duties of the Post
- Liaise between nurses, other junior doctors, patients, relatives and senior medical staff
- Attend to the day to day management of in patients. There will be opportunity to attend outpatient clinics
- Attend, participate in and lead ward rounds. Teach medical students as directed
- Supervise and assist more junior colleagues.
- Take part in roistered emergency work
- Undertake and assist in audit projects at various times throughout the rotations.
