Job summary
An opportunity has arisen for a dynamic and motivated individual to join the established reporting radiographer team and clinical radiographer team at Southend University Hospital.
Applications are invited from enthusiastic and highly motivated advanced practitioner radiographers (plain film reporting).
Your working time will be spent undertaking clinical and reporting duties.
When reporting, you will be responsible for providing autonomous reports on a range of plain film examinations from various referral sources.

Main duties of the job
- To interpret plain film radiographs, and provide a written report for General Practitioners, hospital doctors and other healthcare professionals.
- To issue and authorise written reports in your own name, and to be accountable for these reports.
- To ensure that any images demonstrating significant pathology are dealt with promptly, and the referring clinician is alerted as soon as possible.
- To be responsible for working within your own competency and referring anything outside competency to a Reporting Radiographer colleague, Consultant Radiologist or Radiology Registrar.
- To monitor image quality across the department, ensuring consistent high quality plain film technique.
- To continuously audit your own reporting standards, participating in the quarterly peer review within the reporting radiographer team.
- To provide expert advice / support to clinicians, radiographers, student radiographers, general practitioners and other healthcare professionals.
- To work to the standards of performance and ethics laid down by the Health Professions Council.
- To monitor plain film quality, identifying any issues / errors and provide effective feedback and education to radiographers as required.
- To report any equipment malfunctions or untoward incidents to the Superintendent Radiographer or Manager
- To observe departmental & hospital policies, including Health & Safety requirements, at all times
- To observe Local Rules and Systems of Work for Radiation Protection at all times.
