Job summary

Florence Nightingale Ward has a wonderful opportunity to join its supportive and friendly team for a 6 month secondment post as Ward Manager, to lead and develop a team of staff, promoting the development of advanced nursing and teaching skills within the ward, ensuring the team is dedicated to delivering excellent standards of care, throughout the patient's journey.

You will need to be visionary and dynamic in driving the team forward in a rapid changing environment, required to liaise closely with other departments within the Trust and to carry 24-hour overall responsibility for the clinical area and participate in the management of the hospital in accordance with the Trust's Duty Coordinator policy whilst acting as an effective leader both professionally and managerial for all members of nursing staff.

You will be responsible for and manage the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of care, in conjunction with the unit's aims, objectives and philosophy whilst maintaining and developing high standards of care, whilst planning and implementing ward based and directorate teaching programs, assessing the training needs of nursing staff in conjunction with the Practice Education Facilitator Team.

Main duties of the job

Your role will be to develop all staff to communicate effectively with members of the multi-disciplinary team, patients and families and communicate with all unit staff and the Directorate office as needed to meet the needs of the service.

You are to ensure all staff are aware of written documentation requirements and action any recommendations of record keeping audits and attend meetings and working groups and provide reports as requested and to have regular ward meetings with minutes being available.

You will disseminate core brief and new policies and procedures to all staff and ensure that shift handover is effective, so that staffs are kept informed of the changing needs of individual patients and the ward.
