Main duties of the job
JOB SUMMARY
The post holder is a recognised expert in the speciality, responsible for scanning a variety of specialist vascular ultrasound and reporting on these.
This includes ensuring consistency of medical imaging quality, accurate informative report writing and maintain high standards of patient care to the agreed departmental protocols.
The provision of specialist education and training for other staff and students responsible for implementing a clearly defined integrated approach to patient care encompassing new procedures and evidence-based care. Required to undertake research and lead clinical audits.
MAIN DUTIES
Make a thorough assessment of the patient's needs and document these in accordance with Trust policies.
Formulate a plan of care based on the identified needs of the patient, taking into account current evidence based research findings.
Ensure that all the care planned is delivered to the patient at the highest possible standard. Evaluate and document nursing actions and alter the care plan in accordance with the changing needs of the patient.

- Communication
- Communicate very sensitive information about scan findings to patients and clinicians
- Regularly attend study days, meetings and clinical meetings and participate in discussions.
- The post requires receiving and assimilating a range of complex facts, written and verbal, from the referrer, colleagues and patients.
- Good communication skills are necessary to inform patients and sometimes their relatives about the investigation, the process of the scan, and implications of the results and follow up procedure.
- Written and verbal reports are made to Consultants, doctors, nurses and multidisciplinary teams.
