Job summary
We are looking for a motivated individual with excellent communication, interpersonal, and organisational skills who enjoys working as part of a team.
In your role you will assist with the provision of an effective and efficient Medical Secretarial service to the Department of Medicine for the Elderly (DME) and Stroke Consultants, supporting senior medical staff.
Main duties of the job
Your responsibilities will include liaising with GPs, social workers, health visitors, carers and other departments within the hospital, relaying information in a tactful and sensitive manner between patients, family members and medical staff and ensuring effective communication between members of the multidisciplinary team via prompt typing of clinic outcomes / reports / statements / general correspondence. You will also help to manage our outpatient clinics, booking patients in using Trust IT systems as directed by clinical colleagues and through referrals from outside the hospital setting.
You will attend departmental meetings to record, type and distribute the minutes. The role will also involve some diary management for senior clinical staff, booking meetings, study days, seminars and professional leave. You will answer telephone calls as they come into the admin office, taking action as appropriate and responding to any voice mails received out of hours.
This role will also provide opportunities to help organise secretarial flow of work across the DME and Stroke specialties, and to get involved in clinical governance/audit procedures by attending departmental governance meetings, assisting with the gathering of data as appropriate.
