Job summary
There are THREE (3) posts of consultant paediatrician with a special interest in Rheumatology and/or Diabetes, and Cardiology coming up to join the existing team of 12 Consultants
All post holders should be able to provide acute paediatric emergency and ambulatory care and provide Consultant of the week cover on Paeds and Neonates as well as take on-call in both acute Paediatrics and neonatology (level 2)
Outpatient activities provides an opportunity to further develop special interest and it is expected that the 2 new Consultants will individually and within teams provide services in
Post 1: Specialist interest in Rheumatology
Post 2: Specialist interest in Diabetes
Post 3: Specialist interest in Cardiology

Main duties of the job
Applications are invited for 3.0 WTE Consultant Paediatricians to join 12 other Acute Paediatricians in the department. The post will be based in the Paediatric Department at Southend University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust with responsibilities across the Trust.
There is an expectation that the post holders will have an interest, or experience, in Rheumatology and/or Diabetes, and Cardiology. If the successful candidates do not have the relevant experience, they will be supported to develop this role, which will be included in their job plan. There will also be an opportunity for the successful candidates to undertake and develop expertise in other areas as per their clinical interest as above. There is also an opportunity for a paediatrician with special interest in child safeguarding to develop their role and develop into the named doctor in the near future.
Both posts will complement the existing 12 consultants to provide attending and on-call services for General Paediatrics and Level 2 Neonatal Unit.
On call: With these 3 posts the on-call commitments will become 1 in 12.

The changing nature of the contracting process makes it essential that all consultants have a flexible approach to working arrangements which may include innovative working patterns, including 7-day working in the future. The job plan will be reviewed at regular intervals following the initial appointment.
