Job summary

Burstead ward is looking for a patient centered, good communicator who has experience in respiratory and Non-Invasive Ventilation to join our amazing team.

Your role will be to provide and maintain the highest possible standard of good nursing care, to support in developing and maintaining good ward management and organisational skills and to assist with the provision of an environment conducive to the education of staff.

You will ensure a safe staffing and skill mix, acting as a point of contact for ward staff in the absence of the ward manager and providing expertise for the relevant speciality of the ward staff, others in the directorate, patients and carers.

This will mean you will need to ensure the discharge planning process starts on admission, to prevent delays and make good utilisation of ward beds, liaising with consultants, site team, and members of the multidisciplinary team to ensure patients requiring specialist respiratory services are triaged to the appropriate area.

Main duties of the job

Your role entails having a sound clinical knowledge of the unique needs of medical and respiratory patients whilst allowing you to inspire and motivate staff, develop your leadership style and people management skills. To attend unit and link nurse meetings updating ward manager and other staff as appropriate as well as attending and leading ward meetings.

Ensure good relationships and communication exists between all healthcare professionals and promote harmonious working relationships and safe working practices and with patients, relatives and carers are maintained by frequent contact and availability.

You will support the ward manager in the provision of, operational management, and clinical leadership for the ward, providing a high standard of individualised care to patients, whilst maintaining at all times their privacy and dignity and to direct, supervise and monitor the provision of nursing care in accordance with individual care plans, maintaining high standards of patient care.
