Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for 2 Clinical Academic Cardiology Research Fellows in Interventional Cardiology working towards an MD (Res), based in the Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (ECTC) but working closely with the Research & Development Department on research projects within the research domain of out of hospital cardiac arrest, and invasive coronary physiology / imaging.
These full time post are fully funded for 24 months, designed to provide research training and experience in Cardiology under the guidance and supervision of Dr John Davies, Consultant Cardiologist and Research Lead for the ECTC and Dr Thomas Keeble.
The Essex Cardiothoracic Centre (ECTC) provides tertiary cardiac and cardiothoracic care to the area of Essex covering a population of 1.7 million. The centre has a busy interventional cardiology programme with 12 interventional cardiologists undertaking approximately 2700 PCI per year including 750 PPCIs. There is a dedicated CTO programme with approximately 120 CTO PCI per year. The centre has significant experience in coronary physiology assessment (FFR, iFR, CFR, Doppler, IMR, and Rayflow / Coroventis) and intracoronary imaging (OCT, IVUS, NIRS IVUS). There is a structural programme involving TAVI and TEER. The ECTC is one of the most active cardiac arrest clinical trials units in the UK.
Main duties of the job
As our research SpR you will design and implement a study, leading to the submission of a MD(Res) higher degree at Anglia Ruskin University and will also support other cardiology research studies alongside the multidisciplinary team and research nurses.
In your role you will work towards MD thesis submission within 2-year period of research, be theInterventional fellow responsible for the OHCA or coronary physiology / imaging research programme, become a active participation (recruitment, procedure, data collection) in research studies of the department and produce academic papers and abstracts
Depending upon your level of Cardiology training, access to our Catheter Labs and training in Coronary Intervention and Primary Angioplasty (including integration into the Primary Angioplasty SpR rota) may be possible and you will be fully supported by academic and clinical supervisors at all times, but will be encouraged to work independently.
