Job summary

At the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance, it is our aim to save lives, reduce or prevent disability, or suffering from critical illness and injury, by delivering a first class pre-hospital emergency medical service to the people of Essex, Hertfordshire and surrounding areas.

Our highly skilled and specially trained HEMS Doctors and Critical Care Paramedics work alongside our regional partners using helicopters and Rapid Response Vehicles fitted with state-of-the-art life-saving equipment.

We are here to assist everyone who lives, works, or is travelling through the region. The service is provided by the Charity free of charge to patients of all ages, from every background and faith, who require the most advance clinical care.

This is a unique opportunity to gain experience and expertise in both rural and urban pre-hospital care. This post provides exceptional training supervision and clinical exposure in a variety of locations and scenarios.

Main duties of the job

Participate in the 24 hour rota for prehospital operations from both EHAAT airbases.

Undertake research and audit projects.

Attend Death & Disability days (every Tuesday) and Clinical Governancedays (1st Tuesday of each month).

Assist in the development of the regional trauma systems.

Participate in the development of clinical and non-clinical protocols.

Review existing protocols regularly.

Engage in teaching activity to other medical and non-medical staff bothwithin and outside EHAAT.

Provide teaching and training for paramedics.

Provide teaching and training for medical students on special studymodules and electives.

Undertake liaison activity outside EHAAT with other agencies.

Attend EHAAT charity events and activities.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Must hold a licence to practice and be fully registered with the GMC
  • MB ChB or equivalent
  • Must be ST4-5 (or equivalent) with appropriate post-grad qualification

Desirable

  • Diploma in Pre-Hospital Care
  • Fellowship in Pre-Hospital Care

Experience

Essential

  • Minimum 5 years post graduate experience
  • 6-months experience in anaesthesia or related topics with competency in Rapid Sequence Induction of anaesthesia
  • 6-months Emergency Medicine or relevant experience
