Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen to support the Surgical Division, as a Service Manager for Surgery based across the 3 trust locations. We are looking for a person with recent and robust NHS operational experience. This is a full time position with responsibility for delivery on a number of overarching portfolios which span the Division. These will include, but are not restricted to, a focus on Cancer and RTT performance and delivery, staff engagement and communication, workforce planning, oversight on delivery of the Divisions financial efficiency target and working closely with externally provided data (GIRFT, Model Hospital etc) to drive service improvement.

The roles will work closely with the General Manager within Surgery and the Deputy Director of Operations for Surgery to develop and implement recovery plans.

Main duties of the job

As a Service Manager, you will be responsible for a range of clinical specialities across the service. Alongside the management team, you will be responsible for managing and developing services delivered across the Directorate.

You will be operationally responsible for the day to day running of the service, and will be required to monitor national performance targets specific to ensure they are achieved, and ensure corrective action is taken when necessary.

Monitor medical staffing daily and escalate where necessary.

You will work closely with colleagues in Primary Care, Community and East of England Ambulance Service to ensure that pathways are optimised for both referral in and discharge out.

  • Continue to improve waiting times and establish effective monitoring systems, taking corrective action in conjunction with clinical staff.
  • Assist in reviewing demand and capacity planning on a regular basis, ensuring compliance with local and national targets and continuous improvement.
