Job summary
Our Surgical Ambulatory Care Unit (SACU) on Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC), offering same day treatment for patients who present with either surgical or urology problems from either Accident and Emergency or GPs are looking for a Registered Nurse to join its small friendly, supportive team, who works hard to ensure our patients receive a high standard of care.
The SACU is a fast paced and exciting place to work, taking patients for assessment for the surgical teams from A&E and GP referrals, ward discharges and SACU follow ups and is a great area to gain acute care and assessment skills, preparing patients for surgery and post op care.
You will be working alongside a supportive team whose aim is to avoid admission where possible and ensure the patient experience is as smooth and seamless as possible.
Main duties of the job
As a member of the team, you will welcome patients to the unit, that incorporates one team with two specialties - Surgical and Medical, where they are assessed, and a plan of treatment is either given or initiated. Our aim is to prevent admissions; however, some patients may need to be admitted.
Due to the variety of patients seen in SDEC, Surgical, urology and vascular there is a variety of patients seen therefore your workload is likely to be very varied and interesting, where no two days are the same as the unit also performs minor procedures, from wound reviews, PICO dressing, incision and drainage of abscesses under local anesthetic and following assessment, your patients are treated and discharged or admitted to specialist wards.
