Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust is looking for an enthusiastic, experienced, & innovative Finance Professional to join its dynamic Financial Management team. The successful applicant will have the responsibility for providing guidance and support, accurate financial information, and developing strong financial governance controls within the Research Directorate. This opportunity will give the successful candidate a real opportunity to strengthen their existing financial and inter-personal skills as well as to expand their knowledge of NHS Finances associated with Clinical research activities within a busy acute hospital setting.

Research is embedded into the heart of the Trust's services. We operate over several sites, including our very own dedicated Bradford Institute for Health Research, which hosts one of the NIHR funded Commercial Research Delivery Centres (CRDC). We work closely with other organisations (including Pharma) to ensure Clinical Research is embedded into patient care. Our staff, patients and carers are involved in research that is nationally and internationally renowned and aims to improve the lives of people in Bradford and beyond.

Main duties of the job

The role will deputise for the Finance Business Partner & Finance Manager, to deliver a comprehensive business service, ensure effective financial performance, & maximise research income through commercial opportunities, while ensuring compliance with external guidelines & reporting deadlines.

The post holder must be able to manage multiple deadlines and targets, produce routine financial monitoring information, and provide financial advice and support to budget holders, acting as a key finance contact for a specified division. Strong communication skills, customer focus, and proven delivery against objectives are essential. The role reports to the Finance Business Partner and includes line management responsibility for finance support staff.

The successful candidate will provide specialist accounting and business expertise relating to clinical research across the NHS, universities, and industry, applying project accounting principles to grants and clinical trials alongside NHS and research accounting standards. Responsibilities include financial and non-financial performance reporting, budgetary control, income and expenditure analysis, and KPI reporting. The role requires close engagement with Clinical Research Teams to ensure accurate costing of research activity, compliance with policies, Standing Financial Instructions, & strategic objectives, and appropriate contractual arrangements with third parties.
