Locum Consultant in General Paediatrics

Job summary

This is an exciting post which will involve the successful candidate undertaking a locum consultant post in general paediatric work and joining our existing paediatric consultants

General Paediatric duties include 8 ward weeks/year with double Consultant of The Week cover for the Paediatric Wards.

All children seen in CCDA and admitted to the Ward during the week will be officially under the care of the Ward Consultant unless already under the care of another Consultant.

The Paediatric team have recently adopted a working pattern to provide resident evening cover of the wards until 21:30 throughout the week Monday to Friday and second consultant ward round support at the weekend 08:45-1400.

Duties will also include participation in the on call rota) and a contribution to delivering the safeguarding service for non-sexual abuse assessments. (There are separate arrangements for assessing safeguarding sexual abuse which are not part of this post).

The post holder will be expected to undertake acute child protection medicals as required during general paediatric acute duties. They will also contribute to cover of a rota for planned medicals. They will supported by the two named doctors within the department and be expected to keep level 3s safeguarding training up to date.

  • Evidence of completing a period of approved training in General Paediatrics or equivalent experience

  • Ability to perform the requirements of the post

  • Ability to work effectively in multi-professional teams
  • Experience of developing services through research, audit or literature review

Desirable

  • APLS instructor
  • Research experience, leading to presentations of findings at learned societies or publication in peer reviewed journals
  • Formal training and experience in developmental assessment

Knowledge

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
  • Understanding of equality and diversity issues and how this affects patients, visitors and staff
  • Understanding of what the NHS Constitution means to you, and your responsibilities to the public, patients and colleagues.
  • Computer skills
