An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring senior staff nurse or an existing Band 6 looking to develop their management skills within the Elective Surgery Pathway. This role offers the chance to lead and support a dynamic team, ensuring high standards of patient care and operational efficiency.
Ward 21 comprises 23 beds, including 6 monitored beds for higher acuity post-operative patients. We care for patients undergoing surgery across multiple specialties, including:
- General Surgery
- Urology
- Gastroenterology
- ENT
- Head & Neck
- Gynaecology
We work closely with the Elective Day Case Unit, Elective Short Stay Ward, and Enhanced Recovery Nurses to ensure smooth patient flow and an exceptional patient experience throughout the elective pathway.
Main duties of the job
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide clinical leadership and act as a role model for nursing staff.
- Support the Ward Manager in day-to-day operations and staff management.
- Ensure safe, effective, and evidence-based care for elective surgical patients.
- Contribute to service development and quality improvement initiatives.
- Mentor and develop junior staff, fostering a positive learning environment.
Essential Criteria:
- Registered Nurse with current NMC registration.
- Significant experience in surgical nursing.
- Strong leadership and communication skills.
- Ability to manage workload and prioritise effectively.
Desirable:
- Previous Band 6 experience.
- Evidence of continuing professional development in leadership or management.
