We're looking for a friendly, dedicated, and motivated individual to join our team and work alongside our wonderful housekeeper. This rewarding role is based within the Labour Ward and Birth Centre at BRI Maternity, where you'll help create a clean, comfortable, and welcoming environment for our patients and their families.
Main duties of the job
A Housekeeper in the NHS plays a vital part in supporting patient care by helping to create a clean, safe, and welcoming environment in hospitals and healthcare settings. Although not a clinical role, housekeepers contribute directly to patients' comfort, wellbeing, and recovery by ensuring wards and departments are well maintained and organised.
1. Cleaning and Hygiene

Maintaining high standards of cleanliness in patient areas, corridors, and staff rooms.

Ensuring infection prevention and control procedures are always followed.

Cleaning and disinfecting equipment, surfaces, and rooms.

Handling and disposing of waste safely and correctly.
2. Catering Support

Supporting patients with meal choices and ensuring dietary needs are met.

Cleaning and maintaining kitchen area.
4. Teamwork and Communication

Working closely with midwives, healthcare assistants, domestic, and theatre teams.
- Maintaining stock levels and rotation within the labour ward, birth centre and obstetric theatres.

Reporting maintenance or safety issues promptly.

Supporting ward routines and contributing to a positive team environment.
You should be enthusiastic and genuinely passionate about providing excellent patient care, always putting patients at the centre of everything you do. Working as part of a multi-professional team, you'll need to be adaptable, able to think on your feet, and confident using your own initiative.
