Job summary
Specialty Doctor in Gastroenterology and Hepatology (GP with extended role).
If you are looking for the opportunity to extend your current role in general practice and have an interest in the management of gastroenterological diseases at the interface of primary and secondary care, we have the post for you.
We are delighted to offer a 2 year training post in collaboration with NHSE. The Gastroenterology GPwER programme has been successfully piloted in the Southwest of England and NHSE have supported a national roll out via remote delivery of the National GPwER in gastroenterology education programme and local clinical support for in-clinic training.
On completion of the training period, we hope the successful candidate will continue to work with us in developing and strengthening community and hospital partnerships, contributing to an integrated and sustainable gastroenterology service across Bradford.
You do not need any prior Gastroenterology or Hepatology training to be eligible for this role. The post is due to start in January 2026. Interviews will be in-person.
Main duties of the job
In year 1 the post involves structured learning and supervised clinical practice. You will participate in an online training programme and have access to a training portfolio, course tutor and a wider training cohort. There are objective assessments including written assignments. You will have a session per week at Bradford Royal Infirmary with a named clinical supervisor who will also be able to perform WBPAs and an end of year assessment. These clinical sessions will predominantly be out-patient clinic sessions with an expectation of moving towards increasingly independent practice over the course of the programme.
In year 2, the weekly supervised clinical sessions continue building confidence and competence in managing out-patient gastroenterology and hepatology conditions focussing on patients that could potentially be managed outside of the hospital service in future.
