The job of the Patient Flow Coordinator is to ensure continuity of care within the AED by assisting the qualified nurse and medical staff in the effective coordination of timely, safe patient flow throughout the Department. The post holder will work within defined limits and competencies whilst using their own initiative, as part of the daily A&E management triumvirate with the nurse in charge and consultant in charge.

Main duties of the job

The postholder will continually monitor electronic systems within the department which describe the status of each patient and use this information to expedite the patient journey. Duties will includedealing with ad hoc patient queries, basic triaging of patient needs (non-clinical), accessing and checking patient and service records. The post holder will be required to facilitate specialty referrals and arrange in reach from those specialties where necessary.

  • Previous clerical experience in an administrative setting

  • Understanding of Information Governance and Confidentiality
