An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring senior staff nurse looking to develop their management skills and undertake a Band 6 role within the Elective Surgery Pathway.
This is a fixed term post for 12 months.
Ward 21 comprises of 23 beds, 6 of which are monitored for higher acuity post- operative patients. Ward 21 cares for patients undergoing surgery for general surgical, urological, gastro, ENT, Head & neck and gynaecological procedures . It is a fast paced, busy and an exciting ward to work on.
We work closely with the Elective Day Case Unit and Elective Short Stay Ward and Enhanced recovery nurses to ensure patient flow and a positive patient experience through our pathway.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have line management responsibility and would be expected to manage people alongside training and clinical supervisory responsibilities.
The development sister/charge nurse role will contribute to the operational management of a safe and quality service delivery on Ward 21, management of the workforce, budgetary oversight, patient experience, recruitment and retention of staff and effective patient management and flow.
An important aspect of the role will be promoting a positive, supportive working environment which values and supports staff. Good leadership and communication skills are essential, and this will need to be demonstrated at interview. Individuals should be flexible and be able to demonstrate they are an excellent role model with the ability to develop positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
The applicant should be dynamic and forward thinking, with the ability to influence, drive and sustain change and improvements in patient care. They must have a sound knowledge and a keen interest in surgery.
