These busy laboratories based within the department provide Oro/Maxillofacial/Orthodontic, Restorative and Facial Prostheses to local NHS Trust hospitals.

The post holder will work in the laboratories and work to complete work from the Orthodontic clinics and some prosthetics work. The successful candidate can expect to regularly process models (gypsum/3d printed) for the construction of appliances or treatment planning, as well as constructing a range of prosthetic and orthodontic appliances. The candidate would be required to be flexible in where they work to provide the support that the disciplines required. The ability to prioritise your own work is an essential part of this role.

Candidates will be required to carry out a practical assessment along with an interview. The practical assessment may run on a different day to the interview and this will be arranged after shortlisting has been completed.

Main duties of the job

Provide a technical service to the Orthodontic and Restorative clinics for the design and construction of a broad range of dental and Intra-oral appliances.

Duties to include construction of working models (gypsum and 3d printed), orthodontic study models, special trays, record blocks, sleep apnoea appliances, vacuum formed appliances, prosthetic and orthodontic appliances.

To play an active role in the digital pathway of technical work and participate in the development of this service

To maintain accurate laboratory activity records.

To assist in the control and maintenance of stock levels for laboratory materials and to maintain to a high level the operational standards of laboratory equipment and furnishings.

To attend departmental and Inter-departmental meetings as required.

To maintain 100% Mandatory Training compliance.

To complete mandatory CPDs required for continued professional registration (GDC).

Laboratory staff members

Provides and receives complex information to and from Restorative/Orthodontic Consultants, SPRs, SHOs and Therapists in regard to the treatment of patients referred from their clinics.

Dental Nurses when requesting work and prepping clinics

Estates personnel when maintenance requests have been raised

Answering laboratory telephones and speaking to patients or other staff members

SPECIAL WORKING CONDITIONS

Spends long periods, daily, concentrating on producing appliances and prostheses with high levels of precision.

Is required to sit at the laboratory bench and stand at the casting bench for prolonged periods.

Endures occasional unpleasant conditions due to exposure to fumes, dust particles, and equipment noise/vibration.

Occasional heavy lifting required.

The Laboratory operates a 5 day working week Monday to Friday and the applicant will be required to work 37.5 hours per week over 5 days.
