We are looking to recruit an exceptional individual to join our Smoking Cessation team as a Stop Smoking Advisor. You will work as a member of the Lung Cancer nursing team providing a first point of contact for patients identified as smokers, delivering a high quality and evidence based behavioural support, including Nicotine Replacement Therapy , under Trust protocols.

Main duties of the job

Provide information, advice and guidance on stop smoking support, education and training and other associated local and organisational smoke-free activities.

Ensure specialist stop smoking information, advice and guidance is accurate and current.

Support the design, implementation and maintenance of the stop smoking service, systems and processes required to ensure that the stop smoking service can be accessed appropriately and that internal and external standards for recording and monitoring activity, including outcomes achieved, are met.

Support the delivery of an effective and high-quality staff education, training and awareness programme which meets internal and external standards for stop smoking support.

Connect with internal and external partners to get feedback on the service and provide advice and support to ensure that the service meets the needs of our patients. Take responsibility for action based on feedback to support continuous improvement of the stop smoking service.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of working in Health and Social Care setting or community
  • Experience of using Microsoft Office software.
  • Knowledge and experience of database management and an understanding of its importance in the effective day to day delivery of health services

Desirable

  • Experience of working in a health improvement related field.
  • Experience of providing help, behavioural support and/or counselling on a one to one or group basis.

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills, verbal and written
  • IT skills, including data entry, accurate reporting of agreed care plans, using IT infrastructure to support effective handover of care
  • Ability to build and maintain good working relationships with professionals / individuals from different professional / cultural backgrounds.
  • Good organisational skills and ability to work autonomously to achieve agreed objectives
  • Patient centred with a professional attitude towards all staff & patients during incidental or planned contact.
  • Ability to work flexibly as part of a team, capable of working with clinical & non-clinical staff at all levels.

  • Intermediate theoretical knowledge of stop smoking support, gained through Level 2 National Centre for Smoking Cessation Training or willing to undertake within 3 months of starting in post.

Desirable

  • IT training to diploma level or equivalent.
