Applications are invited for Locum Consultant Anaesthetist; we have one fixed-term position available to cover maternity leave until April 2026.

The Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust provides acute services for the City of Bradford and the surrounding areas. There are two large general hospitals: Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Luke's Hospital; the Maternity Services are centralised at the maternity unit on the Bradford Royal Infirmary site which includes our neonatal unit. The main theatres and emergency admissions are located at Bradford Royal Infirmary while St Luke's Hospital provides a large outpatient facility and wards for therapy and rehabilitation.

The department is relaxed, friendly and values work - life balance. There are 46 Consultants, 4 SAAS Anaesthetists and 32 trainees. We actively encourage personal and professional development. Informal enquiries or visits are welcomed.

Main duties of the job

This post comprises 10 programmed activities. The post holder will be expected to work flexibly to meet service delivery requirements within a busy department and have a wide range of anaesthetic and critical care skills and experience.

This post is to provide anaesthetic services for a variety of surgical specialities as outlined in the timetable. Bradford Teaching Hospitals caters to all surgical specialities except major cardiothoracic, neurosurgery, and transplant surgery.

Job responsibilities

The post holder will maintain the highest clinical standards in Anaesthesia and work closely with colleagues to share the provision of Anaesthetic advice to all inpatients.

To work with colleagues, both medical and nursing to improve and advance the service.

To share with colleagues the responsibility for the management of the Department.

Teaching and training of trainees, junior medical staff, nursing staff, primary care colleagues and medical students.

To have responsibility for ensuring active participation in continuing professional development (CPD).

It is expected that the appointee would provide flexible cover for annual leave.

A commitment to audit and clinical governance and risk management is mandatory.
