Job summary

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 6 Biologics Clinical Nurse Specialist to join the Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) team in Bradford. The Service provides expert assessment, advice, training and intervention supporting patients requiring treatment with biologic therapies.

The post-holder will work closely with the wider multi-disciplinary team to provide a responsive and supportive service to those requiring treatment. The successful candidate will have excellent communication skills, will lead and participate in biologics nurse led clinics, drug monitoring/screening, patient reviews, prescription management. Clinics may be face to face or telephone.

A commitment to individualised evidence-based patient care and the ability to act sensitively and empathically is essential. You will be expected to work autonomously with the support of the other members of the team.

The successful applicant will be a Registered Nurse with a minimum of 5 years post registration experience. Be confident in delivering education sessions to both patients, their families and other health care professionals. Clinical supervision and training to develop knowledge and skills will be provided.

Main duties of the job

The primary responsibility of this post holder will be to manage Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) patients on biologic treatments working within national and local guidelines.

Working autonomously and alongside clinical colleagues to provide expert care, treatment and support for this patient group.

Play a key role within the multidisciplinary team in order to ensure a seamless, co-ordinated and timely approach to care.

The post holder will be responsible for the co-ordination of investigations, treatment, monitoring and review of patients on biologic treatments.

The post holder will be expected to liaise appropriately with all key members of the multi-disciplinary team (MDT) and service users related to the use of biologics therapy in IBD.

The post holder will contribute to achieve the objectives of the Gastroenterology Service Group/ Corporate objectives and work within the clinical governance framework.

The post-holder will provide clinical, social and psychological support to

their patients/service users using excellent communication skills,

education and health promotion to enable them to reach their

optimum level of independence and health.

Although the post-holder has no direct budgetary responsibility

they will be expected to assist with the effective use of resources

in their clinical area.

Maintaining the local biologics data bases.
