Job summary

This post is designed for a Higher Specialist Trainee (or equivalent) in Emergency Medicine or Paediatrics to:

o Develop and expand their skills in Paediatric emergency medicine and Medical Education relevant to PEM

o Gain a qualification in Paediatric EM /Medical education

o Produce and publish research or a quality improvement project on their chosen area of interest in Paediatric EM

Main duties of the job

The successful applicant's main clinical role in the Paediatric Emergency Department is to provide clinical work at middle grade level in the department and to supervise members of the junior medical staff on a continuous basis (as outlined in the job plan).

The candidate will be expected to help deliver Medical Education within Paediatric Emergency Medicine and across the trust.   • Applicant knowledge is up to date and is fit to practice safely Commitment for managing professional development
  • Experience in making clinical decisions and managing risk
  • Out of hours experience relevant to job.

Desirable

  • Clinical governance / audit experience
  • Experience in the specialty beyond ST3 or equivalent

  • Clear communication skills

  • Empathy and sensitivity
  • All applicants to have demonstrable skills in written and spoken English adequate to enable effective communication about medical topics with patients and colleagues demonstrated by one of the following: -that applicants have undertaken undergraduate medical training in English; or -have achieved the following scores in the academic International English Language Testing System (IELTS) in a single sitting within 24 months at time of application - Overall 7, Speaking 7, Listening 7, Reading 7, Writing 7.
