Job summary
We are seeking an enthusiastic, highly motivated Parkinson's Nurse Specialist to join the team.
The successful candidate will work alongside an existing Band 7 Parkinson's Nurse Specialist to manage alarge complex caseload of patients with support from Neurology Consultants.
You will be expected to manage a caseload of patients autonomously via clinics and home visits.
Educate and work closely with patients, carers and wider members of the MDT including onward referrals.
Prescribe and monitor medication, provide specialist information, advice and support to improve quality of life.
The successful candidate will be dynamic, hardworking, exhibit excellent standards in communication and will be expected to lead and deliver high quality evidence-based care.
Individuals should be flexible with the ability to develop excellent interpersonal relationships.
You will possess the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure.
You will need a minimum of three years post registration experience andat least two years at Band 6 to meet the demands of the role.
You must be able to demonstrate post registration experience in the care and management of people with Parkinson's and or Neurology.
The post holder will be supported in their professional development within the role.
There is a requirement to be an Independent Nurse Prescriber or a willingness to undertake the qualification .
Main duties of the job
JOB PURPOSE
Through strong clinical leadership and effective management the Parkinson's CNS will support the Neurology Service to promote and deliver nurse excellence for adults with Parkinson's. This role requires a high level of competence, nursing expertise and clinical decision making skills.
To be able to work autonomously in managing a defined caseload of adults with Parkinson's. The post holder will be involved in direct patient care for adults with Parkinson's from initial diagnosis through to the palliative stages of the illness, by providing expert advice, assessment and medication management to patients, their families/carers and professionals.
You will be involved in the wider Neurology team meetings and actively participate and on occasions lead these regarding the care of adults with Parkinson's.
