Job summary

We have a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic well motivated Individual with excellent communication and clinical assessment skills to join our Patient Experience Team in the role of Relatives Line Nurse call handler. This would be an ideal opportunity for an individual develop their skills and knowledge in Patient Experience and communication, as well as building on their clinical knowledge.

Duties include: supporting the daily running of the Relatives Line via off duty planning and management, with the support of the Patient Experience lead Nurse, sign posting callers through the right pathways and escalation of complaints and safeguarding via the appropriate teams.

The successful candidate will field calls from relatives and nominated individuals, providing clinical updates and well-being updates for our inpatients. The role is based at Bradford Royal Infirmary.

The successful candidate is required to be able to demonstrate the Trust values, the responsibilities of the job description and person specification

Main duties of the job

Responsible for the review of patient records to facilitate communication with nominated contacts or relatives via the relative's line and to liaise with ward staff where needed.

Supports the leadership team in development of the service. Undertakes some management and monitoring of day to day activities

Participates in teaching, mentoring and assessing of new recruits to the relatives line.

Relatives line nurses are able to review patient care through the assessment of clinical notes in order to facilitate discussions and inform relatives or nominated individuals of relevant information

Has the skills and ability to understand and review the condition of patient and plans for discharge through review of nursing and medical notes

Organise own workload to ensure that the interests of the service users are met

Contributes to the effective and economical use of resources and safe use of equipment

Carries out duties within the scope of practice, Trust policies , procedures and guidelines under the direction of the service manager and providing feedback of issues of concern

Practices systems and models of nursing which contribute to the quality of the service users experience.

Contributes to the efficient delivery of the relatives line service.

Works as part of the multidisciplinary team fostering good interdepartmental relationships and helping to achieve high morale amongst staff and continuous quality improvement

Continuously develops relevant skills and knowledge within the clinical specialty

Promotes health education and promotes carers in decision making.

Deals effectively and sensitively with patients/relatives/carers issues/concerns collaborating with the PALS service, follows the Trust Policy on handling complaints.

Actively participates in the clinical governance process.

Works within national policy frameworks relevant to the patient group and specialty area i.e. Child Protection, Vulnerable Adults, Mental Health Act.

Supports national strategy for service development i.e. National Service Frameworks, Cancer Plan & Collaborative through good communication and sign posting

Produces reports and disseminates information to colleagues across the Trust.
