Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen as the substantive Deputy Director of Nursing for Specialist Medicine which includes within its portfolio: Respiratory, Cardiology, Haematology, Oncology, Palliative care and Renal Medicine. The post holder will work alongside the Clinical Director and Senior General Manager to make decisions on behalf of the CSU and set direction to deliver quality, safe and cost effective services.
The post requires someone with
- the ability to think and act strategically, set direction in a complex acute hospital environment and manage relationships with a wide range of senior colleagues.
- a high level analytical, problem-solving and communication skills, and a strong understanding of clinical specialty management across several specialties
- experience of delivering programmes of work using a QI methodology and of leading teams of people through change.
- excellent communication skills along with visible, dynamic and inspirational leadership enabling the nursing workforce to deliver safe and high quality standards of care.
- who will act as a positive role model , demonstrating at all times behaviours in line with our Trust values and for whom kindness and looking after our people is at the heart of their approach to leadership.
- be educated to Masters level in a relevant subject with evidence of practical application of expertise at this level and have demonstrable and credible experience of senior clinical nursing roles in the acute hospital setting.
Main duties of the job
You will be responsible for providing professional leadership and operational management to the Matrons, Lead nurses and Specialist Nurses who lead our nursing teams within the CSU. This includes leading on recruitment, appraisal, continual professional development and disciplinary matters in order to provide a patient focused service.
As the Senior nurse within the CSU you will be accountable for the oversight and assurance of care standards, Governance and all aspects of Patient experience - liaising with other agencies as appropriate and playing a pro-active role in quality improvement.
You will be responsible for all nursing budgets within your portfolio ensuring the safe and effective management of resources including assuring safe staffing.
You will lead on the implementation of agreed areas of quality / service development projects and improvement schemes relating to nursing in your clinical areas to meet patient and service needs in accordance to local and national standards.
