Job summary

Ward 20 is a mixed sex 27 bedded Surgical Day Case Unit. Ward 20 supports patients undergoing elective surgery following the Ultra Green Pathway and provides an excellent opportunity to work with multiple specialties including Urology, colorectal, Upper GI, head & neck, breast and gynecology. The majority of surgical patients are planned day case procedures but patients having elective major surgery are also admitted to ward 20. These patients are then transferred from theatre to the ultra-green inpatient wards who we work alongside. This means that we see a diverse range of patients providing excellent opportunities to work with multiple specialties including colorectal, upper GI, head & neck, breast, gynecology, plastic surgery, & urology. This provides many training and development opportunities for the right candidates. The team work very closely alongside Clinical Nurse Practitioners. We are passionate about delivering patient care that makes a difference to the experience of our patients and working alongside our theatre colleagues to ensure we work as a team to provide safe, high quality care.

Previous surgical experience is preferable, however, not essential. Applicants will need to show an interest in this area of practice and a commitment to the service in delivering high quality and individual care to patients.

Main duties of the job

You must be a registered RGN. The successful applicant must be reliable, punctual and be able to accommodate a flexible shift pattern. Applicants must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, the ability to manage time and prioritise workload. The ability to keep calm and work under pressure alongside a fabulous team in a demanding, but rewarding environment is essential.

Additional skills such as cannulation, phlebotomy and ECG recording would be of benefit but not essential. Full training will be provided

If you feel you are this person then we invite you to join a highly skilled, caring and professional team as a Staff Nurse.
