We are seeking an enthusiastic, collaborative and experienced researcher for this new post in our team. The Senior Policy Research Fellow will design and deliver policy focused patient safety research. The post is available from February 2024.

The Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group has been awarded funding to lead patient safety policy research within the National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) Policy Research Unit for Quality, Safety and Outcomes NIHR PRU QSO.

Main duties of the job

The role of the Senior Research Fellow will be to develop and deliver research that is responsive to the needs of the Department of Health and Socisal Care and other national bodies. At the same time, the Senior Research Fellow for the PRU QSO safety stream will play an active role in planning research with a wider academic team that is able to address future health and social care needs for evidence in the domain of patient safety. The Senior Research Fellow will work alongside a senior research data analyst and will have support from a Research Fellow (0.5FTE) to deliver the research. In turn, you will work with guidance from the Programme Manager and senior academics to deliver this programme of work. You will also be part of the wider multidisciplinary team including academics from Universities of Kent, Oxford and Leeds.. You will manage and/or mentor junior researchers and further develop your skills and profile as a patient safety researcher. You will grow your research networks and be an ambassador for research within the Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research Group.

Essential

  • First degree in a social science or a health-related subject.
  • Masters* or equivalent in a social science or a health-related subject.
  • PhD* or equivalent in a social science or health-related subject.

Experience

Essential

  • Experience of organising and conducting applied health and/or policy research.
  • Experience of obtaining NHS ethical and research approvals.
  • Project management experience: keeping to timelines, managing risks.
  • Experience in qualitative or quantitative and/or mixed research methods.
  • Experience of collaborative research working.
  • Experience of patient and public involvement in research.
  • At least 2 years postdoctoral or equivalent level experience of organising and conducting applied health services research.
  • Lead authoring peer-reviewed publications
  • Experience of managing and/or mentoring more junior staff.
  • Experience of seeking external funding (either as a PI or co-I)
