Job summary
An exciting opportunity has arisen for an aspiring senior staff nurse looking to develop their management skills and undertake a Band 6 role within the Short Stay Surgical Unit.
This is a fixed term post for ten months.
Ward 2 comprises of 25 beds, 6 of which are monitored for higher acuity patients and acute post- operative patients. Ward 2 cares for patients with general surgical, urological, gastro and vascular problems. It is a fast paced, busy and an exciting ward to work on.
We work closely with SAU and general surgical downstream wards and utilise the surgical discharge lounge to enhance patient flow. We also work closely with a wide variety of the MDT to enhance patient care. We accept patients from SAU, AED and ICU
Main duties of the job
The successful candidate will have line management responsibility and would be expected to manage people alongside training and clinical supervisory responsibilities.
The development sister/charge nurse role will contribute to the operational management of a safe and quality service delivery on Ward 2, management of the workforce, budgetary oversight, patient experience, recruitment and retention of staff and effective patient management and flow.
An important aspect of the role will be promoting a positive, supportive working environment which values and supports staff. Good leadership and communication skills are essential, and this will need to be demonstrated at interview. Individuals should be flexible and be able to demonstrate they are an excellent role model with the ability to develop positive and professional interpersonal relationships.
The applicant should be dynamic and forward thinking, with the ability to influence, drive and sustain change and improvements in patient care. They must have a sound knowledge and a keen interest in General Surgery, Urology and Vascular surgery.
The role will include shift patterns to cover the 24 hour period.
