Staff Nurse - Same Day Emergency Care

Job summary

Same day emergency care (SDEC) is one of the many ways the NHS is working to provide the right care, in the right place, at the right time for patients. SDEC are looking for dynamic nurses to join their team.

It aims to benefit both patient and the healthcare system by reducing waiting times and hospital admissions.

SDEC is the provision of same day care for emergency patients who would otherwise be admitted to hospital. Under this care model patients presenting at hospital with relevant conditions can be rapidly assessed, diagnosed and treated without being admitted to a ward, and If clinically safe to do so, will go home the same day their care is provided.

If successful you will be required to work a full internal rotation system, covering shifts across 7 days a week including Bank Holidays. You will undergo and induction and development programme facilitated by our dedicated Leaders, a supernumerary period will be provided to enable you to develop the knowledge, skill and confidence to be successful.

Main duties of the job

  • Carries out nursing duties within Trust Policies and under the control of the Ward/Departmental Manager. Reports any difficulties encountered with this duty.

  • Carries out instructions from the Ward/Departmental Manager and other Senior Staff.

  • Collaborates and liaises with other members of the multi-disciplinary team.

  • Under the control of the Ward/Departmental Manager teaches and monitors nurses and other students allocated to the Ward/Department. Adheres to agreed procedures and promotes, by example, a high standard of nursing care.

  • Is aware of responsibilities under Health & Safety Legislation. Reports on any practices that could be detrimental to patient, visitor or staff safety.

  • Fosters good relationships with other Departments, the multi-disciplinary team, patients, relatives and visitors to the Ward/Department. Helps achieve high morale for both staff and patients.

  • Learns from Ward/Departmental Manager relevant ordering and stock control,

  • Works and practices within trust policies and procedures.

  • Takes charge occasionally in the absence of senior nursing staff or as part of professional development.

  • Ensures all written documentation is of a high standard and according to NMC Regulations.

  • Is aware of Complaints Policy, and reports to senior staff.

  • Attends Ward/Department meetings.

  • Follows Risk Management Policy.
