Job summary

We are looking for two organised, experienced and enthusiastic research fellows to play a key role in the delivery of a large research programme - the Better Start Bradford Innovation Hub hosted by Born in Bradford. Better Start Bradford (www.betterstartbradford.org.uk) is funded by The National Lottery Community Fund to help children in Bowling and Barkerend, Bradford Moor and Little Horton get the best start in life. The Better Start Bradford Innovation Hub, in collaboration with leading academics from the Universities of York, Bradford and Sheffield, provides a centre for evaluation of implementation and effectiveness of these innovations, supported by a birth cohort that has recruited >5000 families in the area. The research fellows will support: 1) specific projects around perinatal mental health and 2) community co-production as well as project management of a number of research studies across the programme of work. This will involve working directly with local families and stakeholders to collect data, complete analyses and produce reports. The programme will combine the exciting potential of Better Start Bradford to transform the health and well-being of a new generation of children, with the world-leading expertise of the Born in Bradford research cohort

Main duties of the job

The post holder will work with senior academics from Bradford, Leeds, York to co-ordinate research projects within the Better Start Bradford Innovation Hub research programme. Key research projects include 1) a focus on understanding the causes, and consequences of perinatal mental health using quantitative and qualitative methods and 2) a focus on project management as multiple evaluations need to deliver in the coming year, and establishing a community co-production group to develop recommendations and output. The post holder will co-ordinate the key research and operational tasks required to ensure project milestones are achieved, and will contribute to dissemination and engagement activities. The post will be based at the Bradford Institute for Health Research with the option to co-locate work at York University up to 2 days a week.

They will support the development of research grant applications under the direction of senior academics within the team and contribute to writing of academic papers. The post holder will be encouraged to develop their own research interests in line with core topic areas within Born in Bradford (see www.borninbradford.nhs.uk) which may include taking a lead for peer reviewed papers and performing quantitative or qualitative data analysis using existing or newly collected data.
