- JOB PURPOSE
To undertake a full range of direct care duties working in support of and, supervised by a Registered Nurse.
- JOB DIMENSIONS
Direct patient care and clerical duties under supervision of a Registered Nurse.
Main duties of the job
- Assist individual patients with elements of basic nursing care and the implementation of programmes of care under the direction of a registered nurse.
- Contribute to the ongoing support of patients and their relatives.
- Contribute to the support of patients in transition from one care setting to another
- Assist with obtaining, transmitting and storing information related to the delivery of a care service. See section regarding Respect for Patient Confidentiality below
- Assist and contribute to the movement and treatment of patients to achieve physical comfort and minimise the adverse effects of pressure according to the prescription of care. Report areas of concern to qualified staff
- Assist individual patients with activities of daily living according to individual needs including personal hygiene, appearance, oral care, fluid and dietary intake
- Develop an understanding of individual patient needs in relation to dietary regimes and fluid intake
- Monitor and record fluid balance and dietary intake. Report areas of concern
- Enable/assist patients to minimise discomfort and pain according to the prescription of care.
- Participate in clerical duties as required.
- Support qualified staff by carrying out accurate record keeping, taking and relaying verbal and written messages promptly, respecting confidentiality.
