Job description
Job responsibilities
Bradford Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust consists of buildings on two inner-city sites. The primary location is Bradford Royal Infirmary, which offers acute care. It houses the city's Accident and Emergency service, whilst St. Luke's Hospital houses many of the Trust's outpatient clinics, care of the elderly wards, and stroke rehabilitation ward. In addition, the Trust is a teaching hospital affiliated with the University of Leeds.
All staff in Radiology use the RIS, and many clinicians from other specialities. Over 360,000 radiologic examinations take place every year.
The main Department at Bradford Royal Infirmary includes rooms for three different types of x-ray scans. In addition, there is a space for fluoroscopy exams, an angiography suite, a cardiac catheterisation lab, two CT scanners, and two MRI machines. Ultrasounds are also available in the central department and the maternity unit. They also provide a mobile x-ray service to the whole hospital, including the special care baby unit and Theatres.
The general X-ray Department at St. Luke's provides radiology facilities mainly for GP patients, outpatient clinics and in-patients on the wards. However, there is a small amount of mobile work in wards and Theatres. In addition to five general x-ray rooms, there is a CT scanner and two ultrasound rooms.
A single-room facility at Shipley hospital provides general plain film x-ray facilities for GP patients from the surrounding area.
The Medical Physics department is located on both sites Bradford Royal Infirmary and Saint Luke's. It comprises a Clinical Physics (vascular ultrasound, bone densitometry, nuclear medicine and physiological measurement), Radiation Protection Services; Electrical & Mechanical workshops. In addition, clinical Physics utilises the RIS for patient management and reporting; a standalone system was used before June 2006.
The RIS captures all activity from Medical Physics and Radiology and initiates the electronic transfer of verified reports to the Trust's electronic results server, ICE, and EPR.
