Job summary

At Bradford Royal Infirmary we are offering a fantastic opportunity to undertake an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP) Degree in association with the University of Bolton. Now in its fourth year here at Bradford Teaching Hospital the course allows you to learn the knowledge and skills required across the different areas of perioperative care.

ODPs are registered healthcare professionals specialising in caring for people before, during and after surgery. ODPs work with patients of all ages in operating theatres and other perioperative environments and ensure the patient is safe throughout each stage of their surgical procedure. The role of an ODP offers a highly skilled role with a significant degree of variety, where you will be responsible for managing patient care for scheduled routine operations as well as responding to acute and life threating emergencies in various parts of the hospital

The job holder will be employed in a three-year full time degree apprenticeship role within the Bradford Teaching Hospital. During that time you will be working on site at the Bradford Teaching Hospital for 80% of your course while you under take practical assessments. The remaining 20% of the role will be delivered through formal education both in-house and at the University of Bolton. Your overall final grade will be made up of both practical competencies and academic study.

Main duties of the job

For the full 3 years you will be supported by supervisors and assessors from anaesthetics, scrub and recovery as well as experience other areas of the hospital such as maternity, accident and emergency, MRI and CT.

On successful completion of the programme you will be eligible to apply to the Health and Care Profession Council (HCPC) to enter the register as an Operating Department Practitioner (ODP).
