Due to staff progression, an exciting opportunity has arisen for a specialist upper GI dietitian within our oncology dietetic service in Bradford.
This role is an integral valued part of the MDT and supports patients throughout their cancer journey, from diagnosis, through treatment and beyond.
We are looking for a highly motivated, enthusiastic and innovative dietitian to join our friendly, dynamic team. This is a great opportunity to develop your experience in oncology, surgery and those with complex dietetic needs. Support and supervision will be provided by the band 7 team leads. It is desirable to have experience of oncology and/or surgical patients.
Excellent communication skills are essential as is a passion for delivering high-quality clinical care with care and compassion. You will work very closely with MDT colleagues including the clinical nurse specialists, oncologists, surgeons and clinical psychologists so engagement with these teams is essential.
The post holder will be a HCPC qualified dietitian with an interest in nutrition support and an understanding of the nutritional challenges faced by patients living with cancer. Applicants must be drivers with access to a car.
Main duties of the job
You will hold a caseload of upper GI and HPB cancer patients with clinically complex needs, The job involves seeing patients in both the inpatient and outpatient settings and as such maintains continuity throughout the patient's treatment pathway. You will provide tailored dietetic input, optimise nutritional status through oral and enteral nutrition and help manage treatment side effects. There is ample opportunity for service development, quality improvement and education including prehabilitation and delivering surgical school education sessions.
You will work closely and be supported by specialist dietetic colleagues in the wider oncology team and the UGI MDT including clinical nurse specialists. We also have close links with our dietetic colleagues in the head and neck cancer service and hold regular CPD sessions.
As a passionate advocate of Macmillan Cancer Support, you will seek out opportunities to raise the profile of Macmillan Cancer Support. There are also opportunities to work with local charities such as Cancer Support Yorkshire.
You will be working across a range of clinical areas, including adult inpatients and outpatient clinics at Bradford Royal Infirmary and St Lukes Hospital. You may also be required to work across a range of other hospital/ community locations including Eccleshill Chemotherapy Day Unit.
