You will be responsible for the assessment, diagnosis, and management of patients with acute medical conditions, ensuring that they receive a 'second-to-none' standard of care from admission to discharge. You will work closely with other consultants, resident doctors, and multi-disciplinary teams to ensure patient pathways operate unhindered.

The Acute Medicine department at Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust is a dynamic department known for taking a hands-on role in service development, quality improvement, education and training.
In December 2022, we opened the doors to our brand new Acute Medical Unit (AMU) that boasts 36 assessment spaces, split across level 2 and level 3, and that houses our Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) facility. We also take responsibility for additional Acute Medicine capacity on our 24 bed EAU4 (Emergency Assessment Unit).
The team is responsible for the care of patients across these areas alongside providing an Acute Medicine in-reach service in the Emergency Department during daytime hours.

- - To be proactive in the Departments clinical governance agenda and take on leadership roles to support continuous learning and improvement, thereby abiding by the clinical and corporate governance policies of the Trust
- - To liaise with clinicians and managers within and outside the Department to address any issues arising that may affect the service
- - To participate in relevant audit and quality assurance processes.
Clinical staff: Recruitment, appointment and educational supervision including educational contracts, regular appraisal, organisation of study leave, annual leave and rotas.
Budget: Work collaboratively with the Operational Manager, Associate Medical Director & Associate Director of Operations to manage services within allocated resource.
Communication: This will include the responsibility for and arrangement of communication and liaison with all other medical and service departments within the Trust and other Trusts.
Teaching: To have an active role in the resident doctor training programme.
