Job summary
The NET/Neuro CNS is a key worker role and an autonomous practitioner and has the freedom to act to influence patient care and service provision. They will exercise levels of judgement, discretion and decision-making. Independent nurse prescribing responsibilities support this practice.
The post holder will ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research in everyday practice as appropriate. When seeing patients with complex cancer care needs, the post holder must recognise that he/she is not the primary carer but must seek to equip the primary carer with the required skills and knowledge, so that the highest standards of care can be made available to the maximum number of patients.
Promoting best practice proactively and delivering coordinated quality cancer care to patients and their families. To work across organisations and professional boundaries to promote cancer care to ensure an integrated approach to care management between, localities, organisations and care agencies.
Main duties of the job
- Promote and ensure effective communication within the multidisciplinary team developing close partnerships and productive working relationships with key individuals and groups.
- Act as a role model providing mentorship and/or clinical supervision to other staff/learners supporting them in applying theory to practice
- Actively contribute to developing sound multi-disciplinary relationships and contribute to the MDT discussion
- Communicate complex information about specific clinical conditions and their consequences to patients and carers, ensuring they have a good understanding of the condition and the treatment options, thereby ensuring that patients can be equal partners in care decisions
- Be able to manage complex / sensitive situations using effective communication and negotiation skills. Dependant on the client group there may some hostility which needs to be overcome
- Demonstrate an understanding of group development and intervene appropriately to optimise team working
- Support the development of specialist knowledge and skills for all staff groups in your area Identify learning needs, and plan, implement and evaluate programmes of education to meet identified need
- Provide and receive complex information regarding the planning of care, advising others regarding care
- Maintain detailed records of care in accordance with local and national guidelines.
