Job summary
As an autonomous clinical practitioner an audiologist will undertake diagnostic hearing tests on adult and some paediatric patients both routine and complex cases. They will also provide a counselling and rehabilitative service to hearing aid users as well as prescribing and fitting suitable hearing aids. You will also help deliver a micro-suction service for the Ear, nose and throat Department.
We would like you to have a BSc (or equivalent) in Audiology (or expecting to be qualified soon). You will need to be able to demonstrate that you undertake or have a relevant qualification to undertake ear care (micro-suction). You should also be registered or be in the process of registering with the AHCS or HCPC. Please specify which professional body you a registered within your supporting information.
Main duties of the job
- A Band 5 Audiologist will work autonomously to perform a broad range of clinical activities such as hearing assessments and hearing aid fittings on adults working with the patients set realistic outcomes and helping to achieve their desired outcomes, all aspects of hearing aid care (repairs, advice and guidance on assistive technologies, telecare), diagnostic testing on older children and diagnostic testing on patients who are attending the ENT Department. They will also deliver a micro-suction service for the ENT Department.
- A newly qualified member of staff will receive a period of preceptorship training/supervision. There will also be opportunity to work with specialist staff to broaden knowledge in specialist areas and procedures.

Torbay and South Devon Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust catchment area covers 300 square miles from South Dartmoor to the length of coastline which stretches from the mouth of the River Exe (Dawlish), past the Teign and Dart estuaries (beyond Dartmouth). Torbay Hospital serves a resident population of approaching 300,000 people, plus about 100,000 visitors at any one time during the summer holiday season. The Audiology Service serves the population of Torbay and South Devon with a throughput of approximately 30,000 patients per annum. Patients are at the heart of everything we do, and this is reflected in the Audiology Departments ethos.
We are based at Torbay Hospital and run audiology clinics across 8 localities in the South Devon area. We offer domiciliary visits for those patients who cannot attend the hospital. We were awarded the UKAS IQIPS accreditation in 2014 and have continued to successfully maintained this year on year.
The Department has around 30 members of staff working across a range of grades, roles and specialisms. These specialisms include direct access hearing assessment clinic for adults, hearing assessment clinics for neonates and paediatrics, direct access tinnitus clinics, specialist adult rehabilitation services including hearing therapy, bone anchored hearing devices, vestibular assessments and a learning disability service.
