Job summary
A Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) supports registered healthcare professionals by performing delegated clinical, therapeutic, and non-clinical tasks for patients, using their experience and knowledge to make decisions within their scope of practice.
Working effectively alongside Registered Nurses/Practitioners within the Department you will contribute to the assessment and care needs of your patients. This will include recording and documenting physiological changes to the patients condition. You will practice in accordance to Trust standards and policies and work within your roles boundaries.
Main duties of the job
Working clinically to ensure the safety and quality of the care given to your designated patients and under the supervision of a registered nurse/practitioner
Undertaking the following, but not restricted to, clinical tasks competently and efficiently:
- Cannulation and Venepuncture
- Wound Care and basic wound closure
- Performing ECGs
- Competently taking and interpreting Vital signs on adults
- Competently undertaking Adult Assessments
- Able to make appropriate referrals to Adult and, if necessary Child Safeguarding teams
Supporting and working with all colleagues during the shift
Liaising with the wider MDT to maintain safety
Helping to facilitate the development of the service as part of the wider team
To participate in discussions and projects that will benefit the team, the patients and the department as a whole
Working under guidance and in conjunction with the senior nursing team and the departmental Matron
Following the Department's and Trust's Policies and Protocols to ensure the safety of patients and of the department

George Earle is a 28 bedded acute medical ward specialising in the care of stroke, neurology and medical patients. The ward works as a multi-disciplinary team, of which you will be a valued member. The ward is busy and fast paced, and you will need to prioritise your work and adapt to changing needs. You will be supported with a ward induction and Trust HCSW induction if appropriate as well as regular training and updates. You will support your team to provide high quality and safe care for your patients.
