Job summary

We have an exciting opportunity within our team.

You will provide complex and highly skilled nursing support to patients undergoing a range of cardiac interventional procedures.

You will undergo Intensive training and will uplift to band 6 in completion with cardiac catheter suite developmental competencies.

The role is on a 5-day rota period and provide 24/7 ''On-Call'' service as required once competent to do so.

You will work as part of an enthusiastic team known as the Cardiac Catheter Suite multidisciplinary team assisting with diagnostic and interventional elective and acute procedures.

To work according to the NMC Code of Professional Conduct and relevant professional guidelines to deliver a high standard nursing care to patients.

To take part in Cardiac Interventional procedures such as Coronary Angiograms, Percutaneous Coronary Interventions, Permanent and Temporary Pacemaker Insertion and other Electrophysiology services which are minimally invasive procedures performed under local anaesthetic and/or sedation and usually require X-Ray Fluoroscopy.

To maintain and continually develop nursing practice relevant to clinical area and coordinate lab list in completion with competencies.

To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients and carers and comply with the Trust's policies and values.

Main duties of the job

  • Participate in clinical cardiac catheterization procedures, primarily within cardiology, providing care to critically ill patients.
  • Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care, assisting in interpreting clinical data and identifying patient needs alongside multidisciplinary teams.
  • Ensure patient safety, dignity, and privacy while maintaining a safe clinical environment.
  • Respond appropriately to emergencies such as fire or major incidents and report clinical risks or incidents according to Trust policies.
  • Follow evidence-based practice and local protocols, including medication administration and IV therapy.
  • Support stock control, audits, and replenish consumables in the department.
  • Supervise junior staff and collaborate effectively within the multidisciplinary team, including cardiologists, physiologists, and radiographers.
  • Work across all areas of the Cardiac Catheter Suite, including recovery and pre-assessment clinics.
  • Gain and apply knowledge of advanced interventional procedures and specialized nursing care, including device management and emergency cardiac interventions.
  • Perform clinical skills such as venepuncture, cannulation, ECG interpretation, and participate in cardiac arrest management.
  • Competently circulate and scrub during diagnostic and interventional procedures.
  • Document care and provide clear clinical handovers to ensure continuity and quality of patient care.

To take part in clinical aspects of Cardiac Catheter Suite Interventions, mainly Cardiology.

Responsible for the assessment, planning and implementation of care and assists in the interpretation of data relevant to the patients condition and progress.

Assist in the identification of patient problems and needs with the patient, their cares, and all other members of the multidisciplinary staff as appropriate.

Demonstrate skills in the care and management of the critically ill patient.

Work closely with all members of the care team to ensure the needs of the critically ill patient are met.

Promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, visitors, and staff.

Maintain the patients respect, dignity, and privacy to act with kindness and courtesy to all members of the public.

Be aware of essential procedures and take appropriate action in the event of fire or major incident.

Identify and report clinical risks, incidents/complaints involving staff, patients, visitors and report to the cath lab manager/modern matron so that appropriate action can be taken in accordance with the Trust risk management policy.

Ensure practice is evidence based and is in line with local policies and procedures.

To proactively take part in stock control and audit in replenishing consumable items in the department.

To take part in Pre-assessment service requiring broad knowledge of cardiology procedures thru analysis of complex situations and deliver best patient care in significant clinical judgments.

To take part in Cardiac Stress MRI, transoesophageal echocardiogram and bubble studies clinic and competently provide skilled specialised nursing care.

To obtain knowledge and understanding in complex interventional procedures such as Chronic Total Occlusion (CTO), Rotational Atherectomy, Intravascular lithotripsy, Intra-Aortic Balloon Pump insertion, pericardiocentesis and gain competencies to deliver best patient care.

Able to competently care for patients with closure devices (femoral sheath, closure pad, angioseal, trans radial band etc.) including safe removal of arterial and venous sheaths, following set training and take the appropriate nursing action in the event of complications.

Safely perform venepuncture and cannulation and able to safely administer cardiac and emergency medicines, monitor its clinical effectiveness and provide appropriate actions when required.

To obtain significant knowledge understanding ECG interpretations and identify appropriate cardiac management.

Participates effectively and safely in the events of cardiac arrest with the involvement of rhythm recognition and delivering shocks.

Able to have knowledge and understanding of invasive and non-invasive cardiac monitoring and haemodynamic in relevance to providing appropriate care for the patient.
