Job overview
The Skin Cancer Support Worker will be based within the Skin Cancer Nursing Team's establishment.
This role will provide support to patients and the team of specialist nurses providing care and support to patients with a skin cancer diagnosis.
The post is predominantly a patient facing role, most of the role will entail providing support to patients via email or telephone, and/or signposting to appropriate services for patients and their families/carers. It will also entail organising and assisting the clinical nursing teams to provide the Cancer Nursing service effectively and efficiently ensuring patients queries and care can be actioned within a timely manner. the post will be part of the growing group of cancer healthcare support workers leading on and supporting personalised care helping patients and their families live with their cancer diagnosis.
Main duties of the job
- To provide general, specific and specialist information to patients and clinical teams regarding Skin cancer and cancer services, to ensure patients are always signposted during their treatment and beyond.
- Provide information and support for people with non-complex care needs.
- To engage with the community services as appropriate
- Recording patient information on the Trust's Systems
- Contribute to maintaining and organising the day to day running of the Colorectal service dealing with phone calls, referrals, emails, patient queries etc.

Essential
- Diploma or equivalent appropriate qualification, e.g. foundation degree assistant practitioner/nurse associate
Desirable
- Courses/further study attended to demonstrate evidence of personal development
Knowledge and Experience
Essential
- Direct patient care. Experience of working in clinics and/or outpatient or inpatient setting
- Knowledge and/or experience of working directly with people with cancer
- Administrative and organisational experience
- Ability to support and communicate virtually
- Experience of dealing with routine and complex problems and escalation
Desirable
- Proficient in the use of hospital computerised patient systems
- Evidence of using Microsoft Teams by way of supporting patients
- Knowledge and/or experience of the Holistic Needs Assessment
- Business and Admin experience in systems such as Microsoft office, Microsoft
