Job summary
We are seeking an experienced Independent Prescriber with a background in the substance misuse field to join our team at Shrublands House.
In this role, you will independently prescribe medication, including controlled drugs, for service users in accordance with organisational policies, best practice guidelines, the latest evidence base, and within your scope of practice.
You will be responsible for assessing, diagnosing, and providing ongoing management and evaluation of treatment interventions for individuals with alcohol and drug dependency issues. The role includes regular duty prescribing cover and providing support in prescribing and reviewing community alcohol detoxification programmes.

- Specialist prescribing of controlled drugs to a high risk cohort of individuals who may be using illicit drugs and medications on a daily basis
- Provide assessment, diagnosis and ongoing management and evaluation of treatment interventions for service users with alcohol and drug dependency issues
- Independently prescribe medication, including controlled drugs, for service users in line with policy, best practice, the evidence base and within scope of practice, ensuring cost effectiveness

- NMC registered
- Masters (Level 7 or equivalent Independent/Supplementary Prescriber

- Significant and demonstrable experience of working within a Substance Misuse Service
- Motivational Interviewing - MI training
- Fully conversant with the recovery agenda and associated interventions utilised in the substance misuse field
- Proven experience of working in partnership with professionals from several agencies
- Fully conversant with NICE and DoH guidelines in relation to drug and alcohol interventions/treatment
- Full understanding and working knowledge of children's and adult's safeguarding procedures
- Proven knowledge of the theory and practice of interventions to support problematic alcohol and drug users.
- Proven competence in planning and delivering interventions for problematic drug and alcohol users
- Development and Input into developing policy in relation to specialist prescribing of controlled drugs
