Job summary
Applicants are invited to apply for a speciality doctor CESR (portfolio pathway) training post in Dermatology. The post is for 10 PAs but applications for flexible working are welcome. We are seeking and enthusiastic and resilient speciality doctor who wishes to undertake the CESR (portfolio pathway) in dermatology.
The successful applicant would be joining a forward looking, expanding dermatology team, who are looking at innovative ways to address the rising local demand across Torbay & South Devon.
The department is experienced in guiding applicants successfully through the CESR process. The post is intended to provide the post holder with the support and training required to successfully complete all aspects of the CESR process.
There will be opportunity for the post holder to be rotated to a neighbouring Trust to address relevant educational and training need.
The post is ideally suited to a doctor who envisages completing formal dermatology specialist training within the coming 4-6 years.
We are looking for a committed, team player who is keen to learn and ideally already have some experience in Dermatology at secondary care level.
Applicants must be fully registered with GMC, hold a licence to practice and have completed Core Specialty training.

Main duties of the job
The job would involve a varied timetable including skin cancer clinics, skin surgery and medical dermatology. The successful applicant would be working alongside our other CESR trainees and our specialist registrar. Our five consultants will provide day to day supervision as well as a regular teaching program. The candidate will be encouraged to engage with regional and national dermatology training events and educational meetings. The post is full time with no on-call requirements
About us
The Dermatology Department offers general dermatology, Urgent suspected skin cancer clinics, dedicated paediatric clinics, skin surgery, patch testing and photodynamic therapy. The service receives approximately 11000 referrals per year. The phototherapy unit is equipped with UVB, PUVA (bath and oral), Hand and foot PUVA, and topical day treatments. A bi-monthly day-case surgical list for complex skin surgery is provided at Teignmouth hospital by Dr Ng and Dr Walker.
We provide nurse-led clinics for the management of eczema and psoriasis, cytotoxic monitoring, follow up of Isotretinoin, skin cancer and skin surgery. A community-based health visitor, trained in dermatology, provides an invaluable nurse-led service for the management of infants and children under 5 with atopic eczema and integrates well with our nurse practitioner and the community nurse-led service.
Torbay hospital is geographically close to Exeter and networks closely with colleagues at Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, both in Plastic Surgery and Dermatology. Torbay has a weekly LSMDT and SSMDT discussion takes place in Exeter. Monthly regional Dermatology meetings and twice a month local complex cases clinic are timetabled.
