Job summary
The ADNPP working within the wider corporate team will have significant trust wide responsibility and will be accountable for the operational and budgetary management of the Infection Prevention Team. The post holder is the lead nursing/midwifery advisor on infection prevention across the organisation. The post holder will undertake a full portfolio of responsibilities as agreed and delegated by the Chief Nurse/Director for Infection Prevention and Control and will be responsible for providing comprehensive and strong professional leadership, guidance advice, support and direction in relation to infection, prevention and control. The post holder will have significant trust wide responsibility with respect to developing, leading and directing the Trust programme to reduce health care associated infections as established in national trajectories and locally as established in the Trust strategy.
The service is structured around the Department of Health guidance for the four domains of Consultant practice and the national Role Profile of the Director of Infection Prevention and Control: -
- Expert practice function.

Main duties of the job
Lead Trust wide programmes of work relating to national guidance for infection prevention and control (IPC) and to ensure that national strategies are interpreted and linked through the clinical governance and performance frameworks
- Challenge clinical and institutional practices that impact on the prevention and control of infection
- Develop the role and sphere of influence of the Consultant Nurse in IPC and provide expert advice and guidance as Joint Director of Infection Prevention and Control.
- Work with the other Joint Director of Infection Prevention and Control (DIPC), Clinicians within the internally and externally along the local Integrated Care Board, as well as on a regional and national level
- Ensure provisions of service level agreements and contractual arrangements are met in relation to key partners (e.g. Devon Partnership Trust and One Devon (ICB) Infection Management Service)
- Analyse and present data as the joint DIPC on behalf of the Trust through the Infection Control assurance processes
- Investigate outbreaks and health care associated infections with reference to their mode and spread, liaising with all appropriate healthcare professionals
- Participate in the planning and upgrading of Trust facilities, including any relevant capital projects, ensuring that IPC standards are achieved
- Actively lead and direct, alongside the other Joint DIPC, the Infection Control and Decontamination Assurance Group
