Job summary

An exciting opportunities are available to join the Endoscopy team at Torbay Hospital.

We are looking to recruit a Band 4 Assistant Practitioner/Nursing Assistant.

You will be based in the Endoscopy Unit but with the opportunity to work in different areas of the service, gaining experience and knowledge within the inpatient and outpatient environments caring for patients with gastrointestinal disease.

The Endoscopy unit at Torbay Hospital has been recognised nationally for its high standards of patient care, recognised as an exemplar site for Endoscopy care, training and Bowel Cancer Screening. You will need a mix of skills including the ability to develop effective working relationships and effective time management.

Main duties of the job

  • Preparation for the delivery of endoscopic procedures
  • Positioning individuals for endoscopic procedures
  • Assisting colleagues during endoscopic procedures
  • Admit, discharge and care planning of patients undergoing colonoscopy andflexible sigmoidoscopy.
  • Recovery of patients following endoscopic procedures
  • Utilise excellent communication skills with other members of the multi-disciplinary team to include the endoscopist.
  • Knowledge of reprocessing of endoscopic equipment
  • The Assistant Practitioner/ nursing associate will work as part of a team, delivering health and social care that focus on the direct needs of the service users. They will work autonomously within the clearly defined boundaries of their Assistant Practitioner role and carry out specific clinical tasks and responsibilities that may cross professional demarcations of care and therapy.
  • To participate in the care, maintenance and use of endoscopes that are used in endoscopic and non-endoscopic procedures, providing technical assistance during procedures.
