Job summary

We have a rare and exciting opportunity for you to be a senior member of our inpatient trauma and orthopaedic team based at Torbay Hospital.

This opportunity is for you to be part of an established joint therapy team covering all aspects of trauma and orthopaedic service including ward based care, day case surgery, fracture clinic and some paediatrics . You will be part of the 7 day service, working regular weekends and bank holidays.

You will provide senior leadership with your specialist trauma and orthopaedic skills, deputising for the Band 7 when required and will provide a point of contact, acting as a source of expertise on the assessment and management of patients presenting with a wide range of trauma and orthopaedic pathologies. You will provide education to physiotherapists, student physiotherapists, skilled non registered staff, other healthcare professionals, GPs, Consultants, patients and their carers.

Main duties of the job

To work with the MDT in identifying appropriate physiotherapy treatments and managements for trauma and orthopaedic patients. Work closely with both the OT's and discharge coordinators in facilitating appropriate patient discharge plans. To utilize all current discharge services and planning procedures

To educate and train physiotherapists, students and other healthcare professionals in the physiotherapeutic management of trauma and orthopaedic conditions.

To support with service development and audits , to support development of National guidelines.

You will need to have a working knowledge of hospital policies relating to absence management, infection control and have leadership skills to implement and support the team.

Knowledge and experience

Essential

  • oWorking knowledge of a broad range of trauma and orthopaedic conditions, and underlying knowledge of medical conditions common in the elderly
  • oCompetent IT skills
  • oKnowledge of the relevant NSFs and clinical guidelines
  • oExperience of working as part of a multidisciplinary team including experience in a leadership role or duties
  • oExperience supervising student physiotherapists or physiotherapy assistant/technical instructors/support workers
  • oAn understanding of Clinical Governance and its implications for services, including experience of quality issues and participation in research and audit
  • oSome experience working with a biopsychosocial approach to assessment and treatment

  • Diploma/degree in physiotherapy
  • State registration - current HCPC certificate
  • Evidence of CPD maintained in a portfolio, including attendance at recent Postgraduate courses relevant to the clinical field
  • Experience within the NHS including proven relevant experience as a Band 5 Physiotherapist in a broad rotational post covering a range of experience in respiratory orthopaedics, elderly care, medical, surgical, neurological and musculoskeletal conditions

  • Post graduate training/experience and an interest in trauma and orthopaedics
