Job summary

  • To provide clinical and managerial expertise in all aspects of skin and wound care in all clinical areas, ensuring patients and their families/carers receive the highest possible standard of care, with effective and efficient utilisation of resources.
  • To provide specialist nursing advice and psychological support to patients, carers, junior nurses and other allied health professionals.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of directorate policy and nursing within the unit. The post holder will share deputising responsibility with other B6's for the Dermatology Nurse Manager in their absence.
  • To act as a resource for education and clinical expertise for the hospital and community setting for the dermatology patients.
  • To co-ordinate the provision of services for patients receiving systemic and biologic therapies to ensure evidence-based care is delivered, and bridging the gap between, primary, secondary and other health care providers.
  • To develop and maintain nurse led services within dermatology, writing and/or updating protocols to meet the needs of this patient population.
  • The Post Holder will help further develop a modern dermatological nursing service for adults and young people with inflammatory skin conditions.
  • Assess, plans, implements and evaluates programmes of evidence-based care for those with dermatological nursing needs.

Main duties of the job

  • Reviews and Coordinates the daily workload for dermatology taking into account priorities and skill mix.
  • To have knowledge and understanding of Government Trust and Departmental targets to support the achievement of them through dissemination to junior staff.
  • To manage own workload, within nurse led adult inflammatory clinics.
  • To prescribe medication as an Independent Nurse Prescriber, within your area of competence or willing to undertake non-medical prescribing course.
  • To actively be involved in management of staff within the Dermatology Unit, this will involve direct line management of staff workload; reviewing/ creating protocols to aid service improvement, efficiency and quality of care in Dermatology.
  • Ensure the provision and development of evidence-based care, take active part in audits.
  • Work closely with staff within the Dermatology Department providing advice and practical support when required.
  • Work closely with ward and department staff within the Trust to ensure all aspects of care are implemented appropriately, including cleanliness, safe environment and infection control.

About us

The Outpatient Dermatology Department at Torbay Hospital runs different variety of clinics and treatments to accommodate surgical and inflammatory patients.

The post holder will work with the existing dermatology specialist nurses and form part of the larger dermatology team.
