Job summary
One of the most rewarding aspects of the role is getting to know some of the patients over a long period of time.
You get to be part of a treatment plan bespoke to them and sometimes part of their return to a level of life-enhancing functionality. With specialist treatments, the department also plays a huge part in preventing hospital admissions.
You will work on The Planned Infusion Unit at Newton Abbott Community Hospital providing specialist infusions and tests for patients referred from Rheumatology, Dermatology, Neurology, Osteoporosis and Multiple Sclerosis specialist Nurses and Consultants, also direct from GP Surgeries.
This post involves being part of a multi-disciplinary team, working with other RGN's,Assistant Practitioners, Healthcare assistants, students, domestics and ward clerk andall other learners. Develop the ability to work as a member of the inter-professional team delivering careto individuals.
Main duties of the job
- To be part of the unit team responsible for the assessment, development, implementation and evaluation of patient care under the guidance of the unit sisters and Unit Manager. You will be working closely with other professional colleagues to ensure that consistently high standards and quality of care for patients are maintained and that the patient's needs are met.
- To improve practice by continuous professional development. You will gain a broad spectrum of clinical proficiency to deliver specialist infusion medications.
- To conform to COSHH and Health and Safety regulations when dealing with cytotoxic monoclonal antibody drugs and the risks associated with them, ensuring a safe working environment.
- To provide clinical advice, training, education and support to patients, relatives and other professional colleagues.
- To promote a safe clinical environment for all patients, their carer's, visitors and staff and to comply with the Trust and relevant network policies, procedures, guidelines, protocols, values and expected behaviours

Responsibility for supervision, leadership and management - Supervise all members of the staff within your given team from student nurses to Band 2 and Band 4 and provide leadership as a role model.
