We are seeking a candidate with a strong background in employment law/employee relations, passionate about making a difference in the NHS, and ready to lead the change that we desire.
Main duties of the job
A key function of the role is to develop the skill and capacity of managers to empower them to manage people issues effectively and independently, including through the development and coaching of the ER team.
You will provide management of the HR Advisory team including development of the and leadership of HR Advisors, ensuring that advice given is consistent, robust and in accordance with Trust policy, best practice guidelines and legislation.
Supporting and overseeing the management and progress of complex cases within the ER team, you will provide support for resolution based on employment legislation, organisational precedent and best practice approaches.
Being a key member of the People Directorate you will play an essential role in the review and development of HR policies, procedures, tools, training and quality improvement systems, in line with the development of our Just and Learning culture
About us
The Employee Relations team are employment law and employee relations specialists who work alongside managers and staff to advise and coach on the application of Employee Relations policies, support attendance reviews and employee relations cases.
Our team also offer a 24-hour response advisory service via the Employee Relations Helpdesk, which is available to all colleagues (individuals and managers) from 09:00 to 17:00, Monday to Friday

Essential
- Extensive experience in employee relations, with examples of leading very complex cases working in partnership with staff side representatives and satisfying stakeholders in conflict
- Demonstrable leadership experience, including management of a team in a challenging environment with shifting priorities.
- Well-developed experience in implementation of People strategy into practice, change management and transformation
- Demonstrable experience in the strategic management of employment tribunal claims including liaising with external legal professionals, ACAS, professional bodies etc.
- Educated to a Master's level in HR field or equivalent work experience and knowledge in a range of areas e.g. Employee Relations, Organisational Development, Equality and Diversity, Learning and Development.
- Chartered Institute of Personnel Development Member (MCIPD) or equivalent experience
